Hi! My name is Jen and my passion is to create medical devices to help people in need around the world.
Since a young age, I've seen my family struggle with a multitude of health issues from dementia and stroke to breast cancer and heart valve replacements. Within these struggles, my family almost always had to decide between the non-invasiveness and accuracy of a medical procedure. With my own major spinal fusion surgery last year, this further made me realize that there is always room to advance medical devices - to make them less invasive, more accurate, more accessible to those around the world, and many more.
In high school, I was able to take technical arts electives where I designed and built some of the projects here in this portfolio. I had discovered a passion for designing and creating with my hands, whether it would be to help amateur bikers signal a turn or to tell a story of my Burmese heritage.
My history and connections with the medical and tech world have shaped me into who I am and continued to fuel my passion to design medical devices. I chose to study bioengineering because it's a merge betweeen technology and medicine. I graduated in May 2023 with my BS in Bioengineering (biomedical devices) and a minor in mechanical engineering at Northeastern University. I am now a second year Master's student in Mechanical Engineering at Boston University and am planning to graduate in December 2024.
I'm currently a part of the Materials Robotics Lab under Dr. Sheila Russo. I am part of a team that works on a soft robotic bronchoscope for lung cancer.
I've had three co-ops at Abiomed, the Masschussets General Hospital's Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging and Resonetics, where I've have had the opportunity to work on interesting projects such as heart pumps, thrombectomy catheters, and MRI research!
I look forward to continuing pursing my passion to design medical devices to help those around the world.
During my free time, I also enjoy crocheting, knitting, sewing, traveling, going to the beach, going on walks, and eating (I love a good hot pot, boba, pizza, noodles)
